BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Brentwood Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its police canines.

K9 Lexie, a 15-year-old Belgian Malinois who served BPD for several years, died Thursday night. Lexie was still a young pup when she trained in Northport, Alabama at the Alabama Canine Law Enforcement Training Center, where she learned how to detect the odor of controlled substances, including cocaine, methamphetamines and heroin. She became a narcotics detection canine.

Lexie served BPD from August 2010 until her retirement in February 2020. She’s lived with her handler since.

“Rest in peace, Lexie,” BPD said. “You will be missed.”
