NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - If green living is important to you, the most environmentally friendly states may shock you

In a world of ever-changing landscapes, maintaining environmental cleanliness and friendliness is important to many. Some states are outdoing others when it comes to this.

WalletHub just released a study on which states were the greenest. The Methodology used to determine the greenest states used three key dimensions: environmental quality, eco-friendly behaviors, and climate-change contributions, according to their website.

Out of the 50 U.S. states, Tennessee ranked 39, while Kentucky ranked 46. Tennessee’s low score comes from a very low ranking in the climate-change contributions category. Kentucky scored relatively low in each of the 3 categories.

Tennessee ranked amongst the lowest for air quality, while Kentucky ranked among the highest for water quality.

According to the study, California ranked as the greenest state in America. This is due in part because of its energy-efficient public policies, solar power initiatives, low gasoline consumption, and eco-friendly vehicles.
