NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Typically, February has brought Middle Tennesseans a mixed bag of weather. We’ve seen snow, ice storms, spring-like temperatures, and even tornadoes.

It’s hard to predict exactly what we will see, but here are some stats on how we range on average.

Usually, Nashville sees just under five inches of rain for February with an average high temperature of 43 degrees. However, just last year, Nashville saw a record high temperature for February of 85 degrees. The coldest we’ve ever been this month was back in 2015 with a record low of 5 degrees.

More snow also isn’t out of the question. Typically, Nashville gets an inch and a half of snow each February. Some of our most notable ice storms in the past have also been in February.

Believe it or not, February is becoming a common month for tornadoes across the Mid State. Since record-keeping of tornadoes began back in 1811, Middle Tennessee has seen more than 70 tornadoes in February. This makes it the fourth most common month to see a twister, following just behind March, April and May.
