NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The one-year anniversary of The Covenant School shooting where six innocent people died is approaching. One Covenant School family said they are still feeling immense love from the Nashville community.

London and Jude Cavuoto go to The Covenant School. They were there when the shooting happened. It’s been a tough year, but they said their support system has made a difference.

“Thank you to Sgt. Bo and all the people who helped our school,” Jude said.

Sgt. Bo is a therapy dog for the Metro Nashville Police Department.

“And thank you to therapy dogs,” London exclaimed.

In addition to therapy dogs visiting Covenant students, people were seen lining the entrance of the school and church with flowers, stuffed animals, and letters shortly after the shooting in 2023. Nick Cavuoto reflected on March 27. He described what it’s been like helping his kids navigate life after the shooting.

“I’ve done a lot of work leading up to this. And it’s just kind of interesting how life works, but did a lot of work on belief systems and things just beneath the surface of how do you handle life’s most challenging moments? In a very unique way, I think I was prepared for that. Where we stand today is like, you know, we’re on the side of belief that our kids are going to do great things that we’re not going to let this be something that slows us down. But something that encourages us and lifts us up to get into the next chapter of life and what we’re going to do by,” Nick said.

Now Cavuoto is launching a new way to give back. He’s selling hats to raise money for the school and families as they continue to heal emotionally and mentally after experiencing such a tragic situation.

“Michael Chandler from the UFC is a great friend of mine and, also Houston Phillips. They just kind of ideated this concept and said, ‘Hey, we’re thinking about doing something, what do you think?’ And I’m like, ‘Count me, and I’ll help we’ll make it happen,’” Cavuoto explained.

They are hoping the black hats with ‘Covenant’ written across them will make people feel united.

“What we figured out was it’s a symbol of being resilient. If you got this hat on, you know that it’s almost like you’re putting on this interesting pride around this concept of like we’ve been overcome. And that’s what we’ve seen. And so I just want anybody who’s wearing one to remember that and to be proud of the fact that like you can face whatever is coming your way,” Cavuoto said.
