NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Cinco de Mayo is almost here and there are plenty of events in the Nashville area to attend and celebrate the Mexican holiday.

The holiday celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory of France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War, according to History.com.

According to History.com, the holiday is relatively a minor holiday in Mexico, however, in the United States, the day has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage specifically in areas with large Mexican American populations.
