About Kara Shaw
In addition to being Professor in the School of Environmental Studies, I am currently Academic Director of the Transformative Climate Action Certificate and the UVic Sustainability Scholars Program, and a member of the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems.
My current research and teaching focus on the social and political dynamics of responses to climate change, with a particular focus on how energy transitions can support communities that are more just, diverse, and resilient. Past research had engaged with feminist theory and practice, international relations, Indigenous politics, and environmental politics. Book-length publications include A Political Space: Reading the Global Through Clayoquot Sound (co-edited with Warren Magnusson) and Indigeneity and Political Theory: Sovereignty and the Limits of the Political (Routledge: 2008).
